Forget-Me-Not Ring

$785.00

Artist: Thistle & Bess

A part of our Language of Flowers fine jewelry collection. As the name states, giving a loved one this flower means “forget me not.” Often gifted between lovers when they would be separated for a length of time, but also used as a token of affection between friends.

From Floriography: An Illustrated Guide to the Victorian Language of Flowers:

“The forget-me-not’s name and meaning originate with a German folktale about a young couple in love. While walking along a river, the bride-to-be stops to admire a cluster of beautiful blue flowers. Her lover attempts to pick the flowers for her, but he falls into the swiftly flowing river. He throws the flowers to her as the river carries him away, calling out to her ‘forget me not!’”

Our Forget-Me-Not ring is based on an antique design, featuring 2 hands holding a light blue sapphire centered flower. The hands are our take on a Fede ring, which is an ancient Roman symbol of loyalty and faith. Hands were a popular motif in Victorian times as well, and a hand holding a flower was used to symbolize friendship.

-Solid 14k Yellow Gold, with a cornflower blue sapphire (please note that there can be variation in the color of the center stone, as each ring is slightly different)

-The center flower of the ring measures approximately 10mm

*Please choose your ring size below. Most sizes are made to order. Please allow approximately 4-6 weeks for custom size orders to ship. If the buyer is unsatisfied with the fit of the ring when it arrives, it is the buyers responsibility to pay for the resizing of the ring.

This T&B fine jewelry collection is inspired by the Victorian Language of Flowers, where different flowers were used to represent and communicate feelings in a time when proper etiquette discouraged open displays of emotion. Gifting certain flowers with hidden meanings was an acceptable way to communicate feelings of love, friendship and even distaste. Gift a Daffodil to celebrate new beginnings, a purple Hyacinth to ask for forgiveness, Lilacs for new love or even Basil to express hatred. Flower meanings were taken from many places,  including literature, mythology and religion. Victorians took the Language of Flowers concept and applied it to jewelry as well, giving tokens of affection that would last.
