Thistle & Bess Classics

Inspired by art and antique jewelry, The Classics Collection pieces are perfect for your daily wardrobe, but also special enough to dress up for a night out on the town. These future heirlooms are sure to elevate your every day. Wear them as modern day talismans or delicate symbols of strength and good luck.

Mano Figa Pendant

The Mano Figa is the gesture of the thumb protruded between the pointer finger and middle finger. This symbol has been used as a good luck charm throughout history in many cultures, originally dating back to the Etruscans in the 6th Century BCE. Worn as an amulet, the Mano Figa is used for protection against the evil eye and to ward off spirits of the dead. The obscenity of the gesture is said to distract Satan from his conquest for your soul.

Bess Opal Earrings

While many believe that opals are bad luck, this most likely stems from Sir Walter Scott’s 1829 gothic novel, Anne of Geirstein, where the mysterious Lady Hermione wears an opal in her hair and turns to ashes when her opal is splashed with holy water. We like to think the opposite and wear these magically colorful stones for good luck. Both our shop and these earrings are named after Queen Elizabeth I, a strong and fascinating woman way ahead of her time, who was often called “Good Queen Bess.”

The Diana Ring

Inspired by Victorian jewelry and a painting by artist Fatima Ronquillo, this delicate solid 14k band features alternating pearls and gemstones. Perfect on its own, but also a lovely addition to your ring stack as well. This classic band feels vintage with a modern twist.

Victorian Bow Collection

Featuring our Victorian Bow Ring and Earrings. The bow motif in jewelry is a classic trend that never seems to go out of style. Originally gaining popularity in the French royal court of King Louis XIV, a bow brooch pinned near the heart was meant to convey that the wearer was in love. Bow jewelry also came into fashion during the Victorian era, when Queen Victoria popularized wearing bow brooches as a remembrance of lost loved one

La Luna

Inspired by beaded gemstone necklaces and bracelets featured in Renaissance paintings, our La Luna necklace features delicate faceted beads and a decorative crescent moon clasp that can be worn in the front or back to achieve two different but equally beautiful looks. Hand knotted, each necklace is a one of a kind, with its own distinct details and variations.
