Thistle & Bess Fine Jewelry

Language of Flowers Collection

This T&B fine jewelry collection is inspired by the Victorian Language of Flowers, where different flowers were used to represent and communicate feelings in a time when proper etiquette discouraged open displays of emotion. Gifting certain flowers with hidden meanings was an acceptable way to communicate feelings of love, friendship and even distaste. Gift a Daffodil to celebrate new beginnings, a purple Hyacinth to ask for forgiveness, Lilacs for new love or even Basil to express hatred. Flower meanings were taken from many places,  including literature, mythology and religion. Victorians took the Language of Flowers concept and applied it to jewelry as well, giving tokens of affection that would last.

Forget-Me-Not Ring

As the name states, giving a loved one this flower means “forget me not.” Often gifted between lovers when they would be separated for a length of time, but also used as a token of affection between friends.

Pansy Pendant

From the French pensée meaning “thought,” pansies mean “think of me” or “you occupy my thoughts.” Often used to express feelings of love and adoration, tender attachment, concern and compassion.

Chamomile Earrings

Chamomile flowers represent “Energy in Adversity.” From The Victorian Language of Flowers: “Chamomile is an unassuming little plant: its flower is daisy-like and petite, its foliage light and feathery, its fragrance gentle. But what battles it fights, and how much stronger it is for the undertaking”
