History- Witch Marks are marks etched into stone, wood and plaster to protect homes and their inhabitants from evil spirits. Evidence of Witch Marks date from the 16th Century and are typically found by windows, doorways and especially around the hearth of historical homes in England. It was thought that evil spirits or spells could enter a home through these openings and that these protective marks, also known as apotropaic marks, would help trap the evil spirits. There are many different types and examples of Witch Marks, but some of the most common are Hexafoils, also known as Daisy Wheels, overlapping circles and concentric circles, and Marian Marks which consist of overlapping V’s and M’s, representing the Virgin Mary.

Hexafoil- A Hexafoil or Daisy Wheel is one of the most commonly found Witch Marks. This compass-drawn floral pattern is often regarded as a solar symbol, which brings light and dispels darkness. Hexafoils have been carved into tombs, doorways, hearths, barns, and churches as a decoy or spirit trap. The never ending line of the symbol was believed to have a hypnotic effect, acting to trap or snare evil spirits and energies.

Details- Solid 14k studs engraved with a hexafoil, sold as a pair. Stud measures 6mm in diameter.
