Come join us in the shop for the long awaited return of Thistle & Bess Workshops! We are hosting one workshop a month on a Sunday from February - June to help you exercise those creative muscles and connect with your community.Details and registration below! Sunday March 15th 4-6pm
Join Detroit Rose for a sensorial journey into fragrance development and candlemaking. Our candle making sessions are designed for those with little to no knowledge of the process, but all levels of knowledge and interest are welcome. Space is limited to allow for one-on-one consultations during our time together. We’re excited to welcome you and share our love of scent formulating and candle making with you!
At our candle making session you will learn how to make a scented soy wax candle by:
tapping into memory as a tool for building fragrance
understanding popular fragrance language
formulating your own custom fragrance blend
learning proper candle care for burning at home
What to expect:
the session will last about 2 hours and includes a brief introduction, fragrance development, and hand pouring your candle. all materials are included as part of the class fee.
aprons, gloves and other protective equipment will be available, but we highly suggest you don’t wear clothes or shoes that you’re afraid to dirty with potential wax or oil spillage
light refreshments will be available throughout the event from the TeaHaus, provided by Thistle & Bess
your candle will be held overnight for proper cool down and curing. we will label & package it before making it available for pickup at Thistle & Bess

Sunday April 12th 4-6pm
Have you ever wanted to try painting with natural dyes? Join us in this class led by Meghan of Rosemarine Textiles, where we will learn to create our own botanical paints and then paint on silk scarves. Each person will take home a silk scarf of their own creation and an instructional guide. Light refreshments will be provided from the TeaHaus. Spaces limited!

Join us for a joyful, hands-on jewelry-making experience led by jeweler Dallas Maynard.
In this creative workshop, you'll learn how to carve your very own pendant using simple tools and traditional wax techniques.
Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned maker, you'll explore different types of wax and carving methods to bring your unique design to life. Your finished wax will be cast in sterling silver, transforming your vision into a one-of-a-kind wearable treasure.
Enjoy light refreshments from the TeaHaus. and soak up the relaxed, inspiring energy of the workshop while crafting something truly special.
Sunday, February 22 from 4-6:30pm
Spend the evening with Debbie Carlos creating your very own candlestick holders to bring a bit of warmth and light to your home this winter.
You will be taught a couple of simple hand building techniques on how to create the basic form, and the rest is truly up to your imagination. It will be 2.5 hours of working with your hands, playing with clay to create something fun, beautiful and functional.
No clay experience is necessary. Clay, tools and underglaze colors will be provided. You can make up to two candlestick holders during the workshop.
Please allow 2-3 weeks for your piece to dry, fired in the kiln twice and finished. You will be notified when your piece is ready to pick up.
Refreshments from the Tea Haus will be served.
DEBBIE CARLOS IS A PHOTOGRAPHER, AND CERAMICIST BASED IN LANSING, MICHIGAN. AFTER GROWING UP IN CALIFORNIA AND THE PHILIPPINES, SHE MOVED BACK TO THE US FOR COLLEGE, OBTAINING A DEGREE IN PSYCHOLOGY FROM CLARK UNIVERSITY BEFORE GRADUATING WITH A CONCENTRATION IN PHOTOGRAPHY FROM THE SCHOOL OF THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO.
HER CERAMIC WORK IS INSPIRED BY LAND AND ARCHITECTURE. IT IS PLAYFUL, EXPERIMENTING WITH SHAPE, SIZE & MATERIALS TO CREATE UNEXPECTED AND BEAUTIFUL FUNCTIONAL AND SCULPTURAL OBJECTS.

Workshop or Event Cancellation Policy
Notice of cancellation must be given more than 48 hours prior to the start of the event or workshop to receive a refund, even in the case of illness or other emergency.All registrations are subject to a 20% non-refundable deposit.
