Witch Bottle Pendant
Artist: Thistle & Bess
Witch Bottles are protective vessels intended to trap evil spirits in one's home. They appear to have originated in England around the 17th century. Witch Bottles were deliberately concealed or buried under floorboards near hearths, so it is only when buildings are demolished or repaired that they come to light. The bottles themselves were typically glazed stoneware bottles known as Bellarmine Bottles, often marked with a protective Daisy Wheel medallion. The objects found in the bottles vary, but they often contain bent nails and pins, hair and even urine. It is thought that the harmful energy or spells would be attracted to the items in the bottle and then become trapped and impaled within the bottle.
Following the history of Witch Bottles, we made our pendant out of porcelain first. Handmade by ceramic artist AD Lenhardt, we chose our favorite tiny, porcelain bottle and then sent it to our jeweler to be cast in solid 14k gold. The finishing touch was to cap the bottle with a protective opal cabochon, to hold the negative energy inside.
Wear your tiny Witch Bottle as a form of good luck and protection. A talisman to trap your negative thoughts and energy, making way for a more positive outlook.
Details: Solid 14k yellow gold and opal. 15mm tall. Sold without a chain
