Shop Local Love

Ann Arbor appreciation post ❤️ This week I felt especially lucky to live and work in such a wonderful community. Feeling the stress and pressure of getting everything on my list done for the holiday, I decided to put my kid in the stroller and take a little walk downtown. In an afternoon of popping in and out of stores on our stroll, I was basically able to check off my entire gift list (I mean, I still have some things to do). And I was able to buy most of my gifts at small businesses that are owned by people who live in my community as well. Sure- it took a little extra effort. But you want to know what that experience gave me that ordering things online does not? I got to actually chat and connect with the people behind the businesses who have become dear friends over the years while I shopped. I was able to find truly unique and special items and then I walked home with my goods ready to go. I had all the warm fuzzy feelings of supporting and connecting with my community and it was also a lovely, festive afternoon out with my son as well. Ann Arbor is still a gem when it comes to small, locally owned businesses. But it won’t stay that way without your continued support. As you check off your holiday lists this year, please check your small, locally owned businesses first before you shop online with the big guys. Your local community and the specialty stores that support it will greatly appreciate your extra effort, and hopefully stick around for many more years to come. Thank you, thank you for shopping small this holiday season.
